She entered the foster care system at about age 9 due to domest ic violence\, and entered the system again at age 15 after being abused b y her parents. Despite challenges faced in her foster homes and/or colleg e\, such as starvation\, theft\, lack of medical care\, lack of academic support\, etc. she managed to graduate university with a degree in Busine ss Administration. Only 3% of foster kids graduate from college. She has studied Mandarin\, Chinese at Middlebury College\, was a teachers assista nt for calculus 1 and for an information technology management class at t he University at Albany\, SUNY. She has also lobbied for more funding for the educational opportunities program (EOP) at Ualbany\, and has lobbied for more funding for foster care students. In fact\, she was the founder and President of a club on campus dedicated to helping students in foste r care\, and even created a Foster Care Students Bill of Rights for all p rofessors and administration to follow at Ualbany. During her college jou rney\, she has also published a memoir highlighting her journey through a buse in the foster care system\, abuse that she sometimes endured by case workers\, and others who are supposed to protect her. Although Amiri is u nsure of her ideal career\, she would like to work in Marketing\, which w as her concentration in college\, or even at banks\, Google\, or Facebook .
