The Legendary Rotary Club of New York built this Summer Camp on Fire Island In 1926. As the article states, it was probably the first forward thinking camp of its kind in the world. The camp existed for twelve years until the devastation of the 1938 hurricane washed it away, along with many other towns on Long Island. The land was donated by Robert Moses (a good friend of our club for decades) who ran the Long Island Parks Department which designed and built Jones Beach and the Long Island Parkways.
