The Rotary Club of New York is organized into five Divisions to carry out the five Avenues of Service which form the foundation of Rotary's work, ensuring focus on Service Above Self and that service efforts are balanced and advance all aspects of the Object of Rotary to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.

Club Service -- the First Avenue of Service

We are a volunteer organization which requires everyone's help to make the club operate. Everyone gets a chance to pitch in at various times throughout the year. Club Service includes tasks like collecting money at the door, giving the invocation, leading the opening song, greeting arriving members and the like.

Vocational Service -- the Second Avenue of Service

As business leaders, Rotarians share their skills and expertise through Vocational Service. Your Vocational Service efforts can play a vital role in improving the quality of life for those hardworking members of the community who need direction and expertise. By participating in any of a number of Vocational Service activities - mentoring, career days, vocational awards, business assistance, or even talking about your job at a club meeting - you can turn your experience into an invaluable resource for others.

Community Service -- the Third Avenue of Service

Many members focus on Community Service projects. Community Service can be likened to "rolling up our sleeves" to serve our community. Our projects include helping with an annual Christmas Party for underprivileged children, being servers at a Veteran's Thanksgiving dinner, participating in New York Cares, supporting a Boy Scout program with short-term mentoring of an Explorer Scout, participating in various scholarship programs or one of many others projects.

International Service -- the Fourth Avenue of Service

International Service is for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service, to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace. The International Service Division has many projects supporting these goals, and invites and encourages participation in this vitally important work. The Rotary Club of New York and the United Nations have more in common than that both are in New York City -- Sylvan Barnet, a member of The Rotary Club of New York, is the longest-serving representative of Rotary International to the UN, and the International Service Division hosts monthly Rotary UN breakfasts which provide an opportunity to stay informed regarding the work of the United Nations, world politics, peace, and other international topics, and to exchange views on related topics with UN officials, representatives of UN member states, and other invited organizations.

New Generations Service -- the Fifth Avenue of Service

New Generations Service, the newest Avenue of Service, created by the 2010 Council on Legislation of Rotary International on April 28, 2010, recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding. The Rotary Club of New York is committed to involving youth and young adults in all its activities, including vocational, community, and international service projects, and to providing programs and resources that support youth and young adults, and is committed to coordinating closely with Interact Clubs and Rotaract Clubs.
