Hanafi in his own words:

"I am honored to join the Rotary Club of New York and be able to contribute modestly to its noble mission.
I was born in Algeria. Once I completed my Bachelor of Arts in English studies and literature, I taught business
English at the Algiers Business School and worked as a translator/interpreter for Japanese corporations.
In 1994, I took up a position at the United Nations Secretariat as one laureate of an international competitive
exam for French-language verbatim reporters.
As part of a team, I was in charge of transcribing (in French) the minutes of the Security Council and General
Assembly meetings.
In 2004, I joined the Official Records Editing Section where I ensured that the French text of UN resolutions
and decisions was faithful to the original - usually English - version.
As a retiree, I am involved in numerous volunteer activities – as a member of charities helping seniors (in NYC)
or female students (in Burkina Faso), and of ‘Editors Canada’.
I enjoy cinema as well as a wide range of musical genres, and I am interested in historical figures through their
biographies.
My favorite travel destinations remain the East Coast [in the US] and…Paris."
