Honoring The NYFD

On May 9, 2019 the Rotary Club of New York celebrated for the 51st time the fine Service Above Self of our FDNY. Many members and guests gathered in the prestigious and historic Library of the Union League Club to celebrate this year’s Hero, Lieutenant Patrick Materaza III of Ladder 56 who has managed to save lives in the most difficult conditions.

PDG Helen Reisler introduced the Commissioner and Honorary NY Rotarian Daniel Nigro who was also presented with a check from our Foundation. Then President Elect Larry Cohen read the heroic deed of our FDNY Hero and presented together with President Ted Perednia a plaque. In the audience was the Honorable Ambassador of Venezuela who also presented a pin to the Firefighter. A long standing ovation followed.

Helen Reisler concluded by presenting several grant checks to deserving projects including GEMS, Books for Kids, Techie Youth, Women in Need, Boy Scouts and the FDNY Foundation.

A great day came to an end far too soon.
